TREKKING DESTINATIONS IN GREECE

 

THE PELION PENINSULA is situated on the eastern side of Central Greece. It is approximately half way between the capital city of Athens and the northern city of Thessaloniki.

Pelion and the town of Volos are a very popular holiday destination for both Greeks and travellers from overseas. It is an area steeped in deep history, and offers a sense of peace and tranquility in a world filled with stress, noise and chaos. Pelion is one of the most beautiful areas in Greece, and is one that will instantly encapture you the moment you arrive.

Lush vegetation, olive groves and orchards scatter across the peninsula, producing a very green and scenic landscape.

The stunning sandy beaches, and crystal clear blue waters are amongst the best in Greece. During the summer months, the coastal resorts are brimming with activity, while in the winter, the famous Pelion ski centre is in operation, offering top quality ski facilities.
Villages of all sizes are found across the Pelion peninsula as though scattered around like fairy dust. Each village has it's own magic and charm, and had much to experience for all visitors.
There are many interesting churches and monasteries around Pelion that are worth visiting to see the beautiful decorations and icons. There are also several museums, libraries and other places of interest that visitors should try and visit.

Travelling to Pelion is very easy. Visitors from abroad can find flights that arrive at the nearby airport of Anhialos. From this airport, Volos and Mount Pelion is just a short journey away. There are also connections with bus and train to and from Volos, which makes travelling from other areas of Greece very easy.

Pelion is a place where mythology and reality combine together, making it a very special and magical place. Pelion invites you with open arms, in the hope that your own dreams and inspiration can be found here in the playground of the Gods.

MOUNT PINDOS
Mount Pindos is situated in the west of Greece in a national park. The mountainous range of Pindos offers a selection of stunning and unique scenery. With cobble stone paths and stone bridges, trekkers will follow tracks that lead to Gamila, at a height of 2497 meters. The region of extremely beautiful and also has one of the deepest canyons in the world - the Vikos Canyon.

MOUNT OLYMPUS
The Throne of Zeus, and home of the twelve Gods. Situated geographically between the borders of Thessaly and Macedonia is the most famous mountain in all of Greece - Mount Olympus. This mountainous range is one covered with forests of fir and pine trees, reaching up to an altitude of 2917 meters. The best time for climbing here is in May.

METEORA
Simply stunning. The famous monasteries of Meteora reside on the top of the huge rocks, and were built in the 8th century. Only 6 of the 22 monasteries are inhabited today. The visual beauty of these region of Greece is one that will stay with you forever. It is an experience not to be missed.
